    Position Purpose

    • Responsibility of the Data Scientist Engineer is to conduct data analytics for midstream oil & gas projects, performing statistical and probabilistic modeling, optimization, data scrubbing, standardization, and validation.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform statistical analysis, probabilistic analysis (such as Monte Carlo simulation), reliability analysis, data analytics, and data classification analysis; with a particular focus on pipelines and facilities.
    • Initiate, execute, and close out projects within time and budget for fitness-for-service, reliability, failure investigation & assessment, mechanical integrity, integrity management, regulatory compliance.
    • Work as a team member or independently per requirements set by project manager.
    • Prepare proposals and research ideas.
    • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
    • Initiating projects, monitoring of budgets, and tracking of invoices.
    • Travel to client sites as required, to support project execution.
    • Represent company at industry conferences and committees as and when required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Knowledge of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 192 and 195.
    • Knowledge pipeline industry codes and standards such ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, ASME B31.8S, API 579, API 574, API 580/581, and BS 7910.
    • Understanding of pipeline integrity and issues that affect pipeline serviceability.
    • Familiarity with RBI and RAMS.
    • Familiarity with and experience in use of engineering and numerical analysis software packages (MathCad, Matlab, VBA, @Risk, DataMiner, and such like).
    • Familiarity with statistical methodologies and their practical application in engineering.
    • Expertise in performing and developing tools for data analytics and data classification.
    • Ability to work on several assignments and projects.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to lead, work, and cooperate in a team environment.
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite of products.
    • Firmly adhere to the values and ethics of Kiefner. Exhibit honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.

    Education and Work Experience

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Metallurgical engineering or other science discipline.
    • 3+ years of engineering experience.
    • Masters of Science of PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Material, or Electrical Engineering desirable.
    • Experience of numerical analysis with strong emphasis on complex finite element modeling.
    • Knowledge of, and applied experience in, pipeline failure modes and fatigue.
    • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

    Certificates and Licenses Required

    • A P.E. license or the ability to obtain one in 2 years is a plus.

    Working Conditions

    • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
    • Occasional visits to field sites will require employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
    • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and working environments.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
